Women group in Guindulungan trained on veggie production mgt
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries – Gender and Development Program in ARMM conducted a training on vegetable production and management to a group of around 70 women and youth on July 5 at Office of the Senior Citizen in Guindulungan, Maguindanao.
According to Ramla R. Macatabang, Regional Focal Person on Gender and Development, the training aims to help provide opportunities for women folks to contribute also to community health and nutrition development as well as to augment their family income. It is funded under the Organic Agriculture Program 2016, Macatabang added.
Mr. Nelson Sanguwan, representing Mayor Midpantao Midtimbang Jr. welcomed the participants and facilitators. He also urged the women participants to focus on the training that they will have better outputs to bring home.
Meanwhile, in a message by a local official, the participants are urged to contribute in community well-being through learning the basics of farming, even just a backyard gardening at the least.
“Show that you are not only good in cooking or doing laundry, but you are also capable of planting trees that can benefit your family.”, said ABC President Datu Sapak Midtimbang. He stressed that having that knowledge is very useful to gain.
The training he said is very useful for the community people. “The knowledge our speakers will impart is priceless. It’s more important than money”, he added.
Dr. Siya Belongan, Regional Training Officer of DAF-ARMM who spoke on how to prepare organic fertilizers and Mr. Benjie Malang who elucidated on means to plant different varieties of vegetables served as resource persons during the training.
The event was also attended by DRMM Officer Datu Percival Watamama who also inspired the attendees to exert effort in learning from the lectures, Municipal Agriculture Officer Basit M. Maulana, and ATs Mama Gandawali and Hja. Saguira Belongan. Also, DAF-ARMM representatives were composed of Norma Sambolawan, Lourdes Cabigas, Alex Juanday, Jr. and RAFID staffers. Similar training will be conducted on July 12 at Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao.
